FARMING

The Municipality of Hinigaran is located 54 kms. South of Bacolod City with a total land area of 15,492 has, and a total population of 74,997 as per 2000 census. This Municipality is dependent on agricultural production as major industry. Seventy six (76%) percent or 11,874.45 is devoted to agricultural crops.  Sixty one point sixty nine (61.69%) percent or 9,752.45 hectares of total land area is devoted to sugarcane; rice is 12.86%; corn is 0.12% or 20 hectares.  An area of 289 hectares or1.82% for vegetables and other crops.

The occasional problem in this municipality in terms of crops is low production per unit area except sugarcane crops. Prevalent damage of drought, flood, higher cost of production, unstable marketing support, farm to market roads, lack and poor irrigation facilities, mobility, and pest and diseases, etc.

POULTRY AND LIVESTOCK

The production of poultry and livestock could not meet the needs of the populace due to the following reasons that affect the production to wit:

      1. Prevalent of pest and diseases.Insufficiency of biologics, veterinary medicine and supplies.
      2. Insufficient labor force vaccination, treatment of animals and others.
      3. Mobility.
      4. Unstable marketing support from NGO and GO.

FISHERIES

Hinigaran has four (4) coastal barangays and noted for its abundance in terms of marine resources from fishpond (732.98 has.) with an average production of 494.76 MT of Bangus, Tilapia and etc.

Hinigaran has two (2) big rivers namely, the Hinigaran River which traverses the Municipality of Hinigaran to the shore, and Tanulo River which serves as the boundary for the Municipality of Hinigaran and Binalbagan.  Said rivers has mangrove area which serves as the main source of income to some 400 fisherfolks, 255 talaba operators and 81 river tangab operators from seven (7) different barangays of the municipality.
